The donations of generous benefactors allow a congregation or institution to expand outreach within the community, purchase much-needed equipment or fund special projects.  In return, good stewardship is demonstrated by prudent management of all that is received.  Property and casualty insurance premiums represent a large portion of the annual budget.  Insurance costs are high and coverage is diminished with stringent requirements by the insurer to document a loss.  A proactive inventory of non-consumables meeting Government Accounting Standards Board (GASB) or other requirements can also support any future claim for insurance damage or loss.  Whether mandated by government or deemed necessary by diocese or other directors, the ability to account for, assess the value and insurance coverage needs for non-consumables represents best business practices and good stewardship.
